Mission & History

Mission

MISBO connects independent school professionals
and delivers exceptional value to enrich learning.

History

MISBO was originally founded as Business Officers (of) Atlanta Area Independent Schools (BOAAIS) in 1976 by Ken White, Business Manager of The Westminster Schools, and the business officers of five other Atlanta area independent schools for the purpose of encouraging excellence and creative leadership in their independent schools.

As the association moved forward, it developed a purchasing consortium and helped develop for a liability insurance program, while continuing to promote best practices and professional development. In June of 1998, the association was renamed Mid-South Independent School Business or MISBO.

Today MISBO has more than 380 schools in 25 states throughout the US. The association continues to support the business officer in the independent school and now includes all business operations. The purchasing consortium has grown to over 160 contracts for commonly used goods and services negotiated by leveraging the collective buying power of our membership.
