Mind the Gap? How One School Ended Deficit Spending and Transformed Annual Giving

Months after joining a school experiencing steadily declining enrollment, unacceptably high family attrition, deficit spending practices, wavering morale, and a weak culture of annual giving, the Head was confronted by an unprecedented challenge in the form of a global pandemic. Yet only two years later, the school is seeing historically high admissions interest, has eliminated ‘the gap,’ set records for annual giving, and is enjoying 99% family retention. This session will provide attendees a detailed case study in how the design and implementation of a strategic financial plan and different business model can lead to a rapid and seismic shift in the fortunes of any school with sustainability concerns. The presenter will share his experiences and leadership lessons learned through this transformative journey.
