Safety first: keeping it together in independent schools
by Susan Kimmel
Ah, the halls of independent schools—where the future leaders of tomorrow are molded, and the phrase 'safety first' takes on an almost legendary status. I know you’ve seen it before, the fearless head of school donning a bright orange safety vest, whistle at the ready, and clipboard in hand, as if preparing for an Olympic sport rather than a fire drill.
The students are a mix of eye-rolls and excitement—finally, a break from calculus! And, nothing says 'high stakes' quite like ensuring the art room's glue sticks are non-toxic and the playground's swings are at the optimal height for fun without launching a child into orbit.
